Sacramento Weir Widening

MVE is onsite for the Sacramento Weir Widening project, the first major upgrade in the weir’s 106-year history. This approximately $350 million project will widen the 1,950-foot weir by an additional 1,500 feet to the north.

While the 48 manually-operated gates will remain intact, the expansion includes constructing a passive weir to allow excess floodwaters to flow over the river channels into bypasses. This will increase the surface area and reduce the frequency of using the Sacramento Weir for severe flood events.

The project is expected to be completed by December 2026.
