Summer Lakes Community Sports Park // Oakley, CA
Summer Lakes is a 679-acre (±) master-plan area in Contra Costa County, California. The development features 1,330 homes, a beach club and newly-designed levee. The Summer Lake development required a regional park. The sports park is 12.5 acres and consists of two softball diamonds, a recreational soccer field, two basketball courts, tennis courts, a parking area, gazebo and play structure. The park area has an internal bicycle and pedestrian trail system covering a total area of 2500 lineal feet.
MVE was responsible for the complete civil improvement plans of the Summer Lake community park. These plans consisted of grading, off-site street improvements, drainage design, site layout, utility design and permitting with Contra Costa County. MVE had to coordinate closely with the cultural resource archeologist appointed to the project, as the park site was an ancient Indian burial ground. The project required sensitive grading and design and involved close coordination with both the cultural resource archeologist and landscape designer. MVE worked with WAPA (Western American Power Association) for the tower easement located in the park. The tower required an easement where the overhead lines ran across the site.
The Summer Lake Community Sports Park was completed in the Fall of 2006.
