MVE began an internship/scholarship program this summer by awarding each of its two interns a $1,000 college scholarship along with a returning internship for Summer 2008. The interns worked directly with MVE engineering teams, drafting, studying plot plans and learning programs such as AutoCAD.
"This is a great program we have started here. The interns are given real-world projects and work right alongside professional engineers" says Kirk DeLaMare, President/CEO. "It's a great opportunity for young locals interested in engineering to begin their training. In addition, we also offer financial assistance for school."
MVE's most recent interns, Matt Zahr and Kevin Smith, were the first to begin the program this summer. They spent the summer working with professional engineers on a variety of MVE projects. Zahr will be a freshman at University of California, Berkeley and Smith will be a junior at California State University, Fresno this fall. The purpose of this program is to begin recruiting local scholars and encourage them to return to the valley every summer. The interns are equipped with their own desk and computer and challenged much the same way as MVE's full-time employees.
