The City of Springfield, Oregon used MVE's Survey Crew to perform surveying services for the city-wide GIS system. Our firm’s services included expanding the existing control network, locating structures and cross sectioning drainage channels for storm water calculations.

 

With nearly 5,000 structures to be located and 30 miles of open channels this project’s sheer size was a challenge. The City covered an area of 16.5 square miles in which this data needed to be collected. The time line for the project was only 90-120 days. The required structure data, pipe sizing and invert elevations were quickly and safely collected by implementing the efficient use of electric vehicles. GPS and RTK were used almost exclusively during this phase of the project. The open channels however presented an entirely different set of complications. They routinely were covered in dense brush and tree cover. Most channels contained standing water, in which our crews surveyed by wading or by boat. Extensive traversing was required to set control and collect channel cross sections.

Sean is currently serving as senior project manager for the 70-acre civic center campus for the City of Santa Monica located at the westernly terminous of the Santa Monica Freeway, one block away from the Pacific Ocean. The area is the principal location of city and county governmental functions, including City Hall, the City’s new Public Safety Facility, and the County Courthouse. The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, which has hosted many citywide and regional civic and cultural events, is also located here

 

 

The civic center will retain its governmental and institutional role, but these uses will be integrated with new residential, recreational, civic and cultural activities to become a vibrant mixed-use district within the city. A new Second Street Bridge will be extended over the freeway directly into the site, allowing for a mixed-mode connection with Downtown and the Main Street commercial area beyond. A direct visual and physical linkage will be created to the Beach and Santa Monica Bay

 

As part of the initial phase of the project, MVE is providing consulting services to provide the City of Santa Monica with a ALTA/ACSM Land Title Survey and detailed topographic surveys for design purposes. The current scope of services includes coordination with the title companies in obtaining some 30 different title reports (along with all backing documents), performing a boundary survey, coordination with USA for utility surveys and mapping, coordination with potholing companies, perform aerial topographic mapping, preparation of ALTA survey meeting ALTA/ACSM standards, preparation of legal descriptions and plats and performing detailed topographic surveys

 

 

The next phase of the project will be development of various yards and open spaces which the city envisions as a nationally recognized and award-winning project
